Annotation
The four disciplines of Classical Archaeology, Ancient History, Latin and Greek have been combined at JLU Gießen to create a cultural history-oriented course in Classical Ancient Studies. During your studies, you can therefore explore the era of European antiquity from various perspectives.
This interdisciplinary approach allows you to understand the ancient world in its entirety. The approaches of the individual subjects of Classical Ancient Studies are based on different methods, research interests and perspectives, media and research results. By combining these approaches in a joint degree course, you will acquire the ability to integrate diverse viewpoints into your argumentation and to present them effectively.
Your study of ancient cultures in their literary, material and historical manifestations as well as their interrelationships promotes a conscious appreciation of cultural diversity. This increases your ability to make critical, historically sound and cross-cultural assessments. By working on interdisciplinary topics during your studies, you will be able to bring together texts, historical sources and archaeological materials and thus learn to better understand the ancient world.
