Germany offers world-class campuses and challenging degree programmes. If you haven't yet decided on the right higher education institution and programme for you, Study Guide Germany can help you.
Study Guide Germany includes a wide range of offerings, including programmes leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees as well as language courses and study prep programmes.
Study Guide Germany draws on two databases which list degree programmes in Germany. One is the International Programmes (IP) database provided by GATE-Germany, the other is the Higher Education Compass (HSK) of the German Rectors‘ Conference (HRK). The relevant results pages for the degree programmes always indicate which database the information comes from.
The higher education institutions themselves are responsible for entering their programme information and for keeping details up to date. Once you have narrowed down your search, it is best to verify the information on the higher education institution’s own website to make sure you are reading the most up-to-date information.
Study Guide Germany provides a comprehensive overview of the German higher education landscape. Users can search for Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. As a first step, Study Guide directs users to programmes from the International Programmes database (see Data Sources), with results matched to their individual interests and requirements. These programmes are mostly taught in English and often provide specific support to international students.
To broaden their search, users can also access a second search interface based on HSK data. This database offers a much more comprehensive list of programmes across German higher education institutions, beyond those specifically tailored to international students.
For every degree programme, Study Guide Germany displays potential scholarship options matched by an algorithm that takes into account the factors country of origin, field of study and degree. As these are automated suggestions, they might not be a perfect fit. Because requirements can be very specific, it is essential to read the eligibility details for each offer carefully.
The scholarship data is taken from the DAAD scholarship database, which includes both DAAD scholarships and programmes from selected funding organisations. For a more detailed search, you should use the official DAAD Scholarship Database.
Study Guide Germany helps you compare your language skills with admission requirements of a specific programme. Based on your information, the system can highlight compatible programmes with an icon or indicate if a language course might be necessary. Please note that these markers are for guidance only, as not all programmes list their specific requirements in the database. Since admission rules can change, it is recommended to verify the details on the higher education institution’s website or contacting them directly.
If you do not speak German, it is possible to find English-language programmes and courses. Simply filter by language.
It is important to note that even if the programme is offered entirely in English, some higher education institutions require you to show a basic understanding of German. It also recommended learning German for your everyday living. For this purpose, Study Guide also helps you find fitting language courses.
If you already know in which city you would like to study in, or if you would prefer to search by the size of your future study location or its long-distance transport connections, you can use the Study Guide Germany city database. At present, it features profiles of a limited selection of student cities in Germany, but it is continuously being expanded. Please note that many other cities also offer excellent study programmes, even if they are not yet included in the database. The available profiles provide useful insights into aspects such as cultural life, proximity to nature, the size of the student population and the range of subject areas offered by local higher education institutions.
